Annie Leibovitz was born in the small town of Westport (near Waterbury, CT, USA), the son of Samuel and Marilyn Leibovitz. Father Annie Leibovitz – Air Force officer, his mother – a teacher of modern dance at the Art Institute of San Francisco. Annie Leibovitz originally wanted to become an art teacher, so after graduation went to college, where her mother worked. The art of photography first became interested in it during a trip to Japan after the second year. Upon returning home, Annie Leibovitz immediately signed up for a photography course. In the third year she decides to leave school and goes in search of new experiences with an archaeological expedition in Israel in the excavations of the palace of King Solomon. This is where Annie comes up with the idea to dedicate his life to the art of photography. In her own memories, one day she was leafing through magazines sent to another room «Rolling Stone» – View photos of musicians became the starting point of her career.
After returning from Israel to the United States, she managed not only to get acquainted with the ideological inspirer and chief editor of the magazine «Rolling Stone» Jen Wenner, but also to become a freelance photographer for its publication. Talent photographer Annie Leibovitz is appreciated – in a few years she became chief photographer of the most popular magazine in the musical environment. Over the next thirteen years, she has tirelessly put things on the camera lens of famous musicians, actors and politicians. Many of her pictures later become world famous.
